OUR SPONSORS:
PRIDE IN TOUCH
All are welcome here, that welcome all.
As a sport for all, San Diego Touch Rugby celebrates and values the inclusion of transgender, nonbinary and gender diverse people in Touch and strives towards providing a safe and welcoming environment for any person to be their authentic self.
Have you ever wondered why we are the “shrimps” and the “squirrels?”
@sdtouchrugby welcomes athletes to play on whichever team they feel most comfortable. Though each team competes in the respective men’s and women’s open categories, we strive to create an inclusive environment where, for example, someone competing in the women’s division may not identify as a woman but still can play on that team. Likewise, some of our women’s players are good enough to compete in Men’s Open. Therefore, we have team names that don’t need to indicate a gender expression. Just a bunch of shrimps and squirrels playing the sport we love. #inclusivity in sports matters.
Inclusivity Statement:
To offer a Men's, Women's, Mixed, and Masters' team for people to participate on as those are the divisions offered through our governing board, USA Touch. Although these teams are referred to in these categories, not everyone that participates on these teams may identify as male or female, so we ask that our community makes an effort to use language that is inclusive of everyone.
Touch Category- This refers to the format of Touch that is being played. Currently, there are three categories, in the context of gender: Women’s Touch, Men’s Touch and Mixed Touch.
Men’s Touch- A Touch event, competition, league or match which are available for people who identify as male, non-binary or gender diverse to participate in. In the US, women are also permitted to compete on the men’s team depending on their ability to compete at the highest level of touch.
Women’s Touch- A Touch event, competition, league or match which are available for people who identify as female, non-binary or gender diverse to participate in.
Mixed Touch - A Touch event, competition, league or match which are available for a mixture of people who identify as male, female, non-binary or gender diverse to participate in.
